Wear This in That

Inspired by Kat's posts of Outfits Inspired by Dishes and I thought it would be fun to do an outfit inspired by an interior. I don't know how well the two images correlate but it was fun looking for elements in the interior that could be translated into something to wear.

Wanderlust

As I was scrolling through the pages of my Tumblr dashboard yesterday, I noticed that people were posting a lot of pictures of nature. Usually during this time of the year my dashboard is filled with photos of cute girls wearing warm knitted socks, holding cups of delicious tea/coffee/cocoa, and sporting perfectly tousled hair (not that that's a bad thing!).
However, seeing photos of green mountains, dirt paths and misty forests was a breath of fresh air and made me really want to go hiking. I know it's winter but lucky for me, the Bay Area doesn't get too cold and (for some reason) hasn't really hit its full winter potential. This brings me to my next point: winter hiking!!
To me, hiking has always been a summer activity but since we are having some unusually warmer weather this year and I'm having some unusual urges to reconnect with nature, perhaps I'll find some time to get out there and do it.
Now if only Alex had a free day to go for a walk...

DIY Felt Garland

I was going through my blog reader yesterday when I came across these photos of felt ball garland on Angela Hardison's fab blog. I've been feeling the urge to do some DIY projects lately and figured that this project would be a good one for me. I didn't want to just buy felt balls and string them together so I looked up a "How to make felt balls" tutorial. Turns out, there is a really simple one over at Pickles.no! I love finding new and awesome DIY blogs and websites!
My dad is sort of a DIY project nerd too so when I told him of my little plan, he advised me to buy plain white wool and then dye it with Kool-Aid! I have no idea if it will work, so I guess this will be a fun little experiment.
I'll let you know how it goes!

All white? All right!

Do you live in an apartment with boring white walls? Do you say to yourself, "If only I could add some color, I'd love this place?"
I was in the same boat as you but now, I am obsessed with all white interiors!

I would say the key points for a perfectly decorated white interior are:
1. Good natural lighting
2. Some fresh plants or flowers
3. A nice punch of color
4. Interesting wall art or decorations (i.e. mirror, painting or pictures)

Below are just some samples that are really inspiring me lately:

For the Bored

$2 mug kits from Michael's by masikawa
$2 mug kits from Michael's, a photo by masikawa on Flickr.

I've been pretty lazy lately. I've gotten into a terrible habit of going to work, coming home, working out and spending the rest of the night on the couch watching Hulu and browsing Tumblr.

Tumblr is a great place to get inspired but also the kind of site that will suck you in and won't let you go until you look up at the clock and realize that you have to be up again in four hours.

With a ton of inspiration and new motivation to get the creative juices flowing, I took a little trip to Michael's and spent a bit of time looking around for a new project. I didn't want to take on anything too big (and by too big, I mean something that will take me more than two days to finish) and I wanted it to be fun.

On a tiny, almost hidden shelf, I found these little mug kits! The perfect project for a girl who gets distracted easily. Each kit was about $2 and came with five markers each: red, yellow, blue, green and black. The colored markers looked a little too much like white board markers when I tested them out so I stuck to using black only and I love the result!

Overall, I think this was a good project to get me started on. Maybe now I can finish painting my set of drawers (a project I stated last October...hehe).
